On a cold Sunday, Repton U14 Boys met Beeston at Nottingham Hockey Centre in the England Hockey Championship. Beeston prevailed in a recent friendly match between the two sides but this afternoon saw a different result following a much improved Repton performance. Positive play balanced with a patient maturity led to large amounts of possession for the young Repton side but some solid Beeston defending prevented Repton converting. At the other end, some excellent saves from Josh Parish in the Repton goal snuffed out any chances from Beeston, including a fantastic triple save.
At half-time, the game was delicately poised at 0-0 and Repton's improved performance saw them grow in confidence in the second half pressing the Beeston backline earning several penalty corners. Will Tarrant broke the deadlock in the second half and put Repton ahead with a powerful drag-flick to the bottom corner. It was then a test of whether Repton could hold onto this lead they had deservedly gained.
A period of sustained pressure from Beeston saw them work well into the Repton defensive third, allowing them to gain an equalizer about 10 minutes before the end of the game. A push from Repton saw them come very close minutes from time but it was not to be. A well-earned draw was the final result in a great game from both sides.
