What Happened in Week 3?

Anna Stone7 Oct 2025 - 16:18

Junior's kicked off their season in full force, whilst the M1 provided another dominant display.

The W1’s made the short journey across to local rivals Beeston HC on Saturday afternoon for what proved to be a closely fought encounter.
With a strong breeze and a lively home crowd setting the scene, Beeston started the brighter of the two sides, winning the first penalty corner of the match in the opening quarter. Some excellent running from Anna M at the top of the circle ensured the hosts were denied an early breakthrough. Into half time and the score remained level at 0-0.
Just three minutes into the second half, Beeston took the lead through a routine penalty corner. Now trailing the W1 had some work to do. Within the opening minute of the restart, they earned a penalty corner of their own, but the chance couldn’t be converted, leaving the score at 1-0.
Beeston held on well into the dying minutes and the W1 were unable to find the equaliser as Beeston claimed all 3 points.
It wasn’t the result Repton had hoped for, and the team will be disappointed not to have matched the high standards set in last weekend’s strong performance against Buckingham. However, there were positives to take, and the focus now turns to regrouping and preparing for next weekend’s trip to Olton.

The M2’s made the trip to Birmingham on Saturday for their second league game of the season, coming away with a well-earned 3-1 victory over Beacon 2s.
Repton got off to the perfect start, stealing possession straight from the Beacon pushback. Quick passing saw the ball moved to Freddie N, who broke down the right side and forced an early penalty corner. Archie A made no mistake from the set piece, giving Repton a 1-0 lead inside the opening minute.
Buoyed by the early goal, Repton continued to press hard, creating a string of chances. Beacon gradually settled and began to frustrate the visitors with strong defensive organisation, while resorting to long aerial balls to relieve pressure. One such play led to their equaliser in the 18th minute, a deflected overhead finding a Beacon forward clean through on goal, who calmly finished into the corner to make it 1-1.
Repton remained dominant up to half-time, moving the ball well and carving out opportunities, but couldn’t find the finishing touch before the break.
After the restart, Repton came out with intent, pressing high and turning over possession regularly. Their efforts were rewarded in the 49th minute when Taylor L-S finished off a superb team move to restore the lead at 2-1.
Just six minutes later, Jasper S added a third, capping another slick attacking passage to seal the win at 3-1 and put the result beyond doubt.
It was a strong team performance from start to finish, with Repton controlling large periods of play and showing great composure in key moments. While the scoreline didn’t fully reflect their dominance, it was a well-deserved three points and a step forward in their early-season campaign.

Repton M1 made the shorter journey to Birmingham to face the University side, one of three university teams in their league, expecting a fast-paced encounter.
The visitors started strongly, earning a penalty corner in the 6th minute which was confidently converted by Si C to open the scoring. Momentum stayed with Repton as newcomer Ben H doubled the lead soon after with a well-taken finish from open play.
Birmingham gradually settled into the game, but Repton’s disciplined defence ensured the 2–0 scoreline remained unchanged at half time.
The third quarter provided plenty of action, featuring two cards and four goals. Repton dominated the period, with Rocco EW adding one in open play and Si C completing his hattrick with two more well-taken goals, extending the lead to 5–1.
Heading into the final quarter, Repton needed to control and focus on managing the game. However, Birmingham pushed hard in the closing stages, pressing higher and pulling back two goals to reduce the deficit. Despite the late pressure, Repton held firm to secure a 5–3 victory and take all three points back home.
With three wins from three in the new league, the M1s continue their strong start to the season and will look to maintain their momentum away at Olton next week.

Repton opened their season with a thrilling 6–5 victory over Neston in what proved to be a pulsating, end-to-end encounter. With several players taking the field together for the first time, the team quickly found their rhythm going forward, producing some excellent attacking hockey that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.
It was not a game for the faint-hearted, with both sides trading goals throughout in a high-tempo contest full of skill and determination. Repton showed real flair and composure in front of goal, combining well as new partnerships began to form.
The team’s performance offered plenty of encouragement, showing glimpses of what promises to be a very exciting season ahead. A strong all-round effort and an excellent way to start the campaign.

With only 11 members in the team, this group of girls took it to Bowdon. Straight from the offset Repton went out fighting. Just 3 minutes in Issy R opened the scoring to give Repton the lead. A short 5 minutes later, Ellie W doubled the lead from open play. The game settled and just shy of half time Emily S scored Repton’s 3rd.
The end of the half came at a good time and gave our 11 players a chance to rest up before an expected improved performance from Bowdon. And so, they did, Bowdon came out upping their physicality and bringing it to the Repton girls. Repton showed real grit and determination despite the tired legs, and it wasn’t until the 52nd Minute where Bowdon grabbed a goal back to make the score 3-1. This however would be the last of their chances and Repton held out with a great team performance to take the win.

A strong start from our U14 Boys’ put early pressure on Leek with their goalkeeper proving formidable. However, a neat bit of measured play around the D lead to a pass into Matthew B, who with a cool head rounded the GK to open the scoring. This was shortly followed by the first of 3 goals for club debutant Henry M. Leek quickly responded with a well worked Penalty Corner, although Repton will have been disappointed to have conceded the PC, having had a number of opportunities to clear the ball beforehand.
Henry followed up with another goal just before half time to help Repton to a lead of 3-1 at the break. However, with Nye scoring his debut goal within the first minute of the restart, Leek were forced to stretch the play and press higher up the pitch, which led to a couple of chances for them and gave Repton’s GK Hector some work to do, which he did with ease.
A tactical change in midfield allowed Repton to benefit from Leek’s play in the latter stages of the game resulting in Henry completing his hattrick, before Nye was rewarded with his own hattrick scoring his 2nd and then 3rd in the dying seconds of normal time.
Great to see the whole team continuing to push for more goals right up until the whistle even with the game already won.
Although the goal scorers often take the plaudits, all goals were a real team effort, coming generally from excellent wide play, driving to the baseline and passing into the danger area in front of goal.
Overall, a solid performance from a young team who are still learning to play together, on the evidence of today, this should be the start to strong season to come.
