This weekend proved to be a busy one, with many of our juniors in action on Sunday, as well as a hard-fought match for our M2 and penultimate fixtures for both First Teams. Compared to recent weeks, our juniors faced some tougher challenges, but their resilience and determination shone through, resulting in a fantastic set of performances.
The M2 also dug deep, securing a 2–1 win thanks to a last-play equaliser that sealed the victory in dramatic fashion.
Well done to all involved! Read below for full match reports.
Repton W1 hosted their penultimate fixture before the Christmas break, eager to build on the point earned the previous weekend. Their opponents, newly promoted Leeds, arrived looking to make their mark, and despite the cold and wet conditions, the game got underway at midday.
Leeds started sharply and immediately put Repton under pressure. Just three minutes into the match, the visitors won a penalty corner and converted it to take an early 1–0 lead.
Repton gradually settled, showing more composure as the quarter progressed. Their connection play improved, and they managed to outlet more effectively, earning two penalty corners of their own. However, a resolute Leeds defence stood firm to keep the hosts out.
The second quarter saw Leeds continue to press, making several entries into the Repton D. Strong defensive blocks from the home side kept the scoreline unchanged, and Repton went into halftime trailing 1–0.
Leeds began the second half with the same intensity, using long balls and high pressure to stretch Repton. Their efforts resulted in a flurry of short corners, and in a decisive third quarter, Leeds converted three of them to take a commanding 4–0 advantage.
Repton reached the final break searching for a reset, and as seen in recent matches, they found renewed rhythm. The hosts enjoyed longer spells of possession and moved the ball with more consistency. Despite their improved play in the final 17 minutes, Leeds remained disciplined and denied Repton any meaningful D entries to mount a comeback.
It was a tough afternoon for Repton W1 and a performance they will feel fell below their standards. With one match left before the break, they will be determined to respond positively and secure three points to carry momentum into the new year.

Following a hard-fought win against a student side last weekend, Repton M1 were determined to respond strongly and reinforce their position at the top of the league. What unfolded was a gritty, hard-working performance, far from the prettiest, but ultimately enough to secure all three points.
Repton started brightly in the opening quarter, applying sustained pressure on Timperley and earning early penalty corners. However, the visitors’ disciplined defensive unit held firm, keeping the score locked at 0–0.
Timperley grew into the game in the second quarter, creating opportunities of their own. Several penalty corners went their way, but courageous defensive running, particularly from Si C, who took a heavy blow to the leg, and strong saves from Ambrose ensured the deadlock remained. Repton continued to threaten on the counter, making use of longer aerial balls. Archie B caused real problems down the left, driving into the D and forcing Timperley onto the back foot.
The breakthrough finally came in the 23rd minute after a poor tackle from Timperley awarded Repton a penalty stroke. Si C stepped up and calmly converted, giving the hosts a deserved 1–0 lead. The score remained unchanged heading into halftime.
The intensity ramped up significantly in the third quarter, with physicality increasing on both sides. Repton came inches away from extending their lead, while Ben C spearheaded several strong attacking moves that kept the visitors under pressure. Timperley began to lose some composure and received a green card in the 46th minute, temporarily reducing them to 10 players, though Repton couldn’t capitalise on the advantage.
In the final quarter, Timperley pushed hard for an equaliser, enjoying long spells of possession but creating limited clear chances. A few turnovers rattled Repton, and this time it was the home side who picked up a green card. Shortly after, Timperley also went down to 10, setting up a tense finish with both teams reduced.
Repton held their structure superbly in the closing minutes, managing the game with maturity and seeing out a valuable 1–0 win. The result takes them to 25 points from a possible 27, maintaining their impressive momentum this season.
Next up: Repton M1 host Durham at home, a fixture expected to deliver fast-paced, high-quality hockey.

Repton Men’s 2nd XI entered their ninth game of the season looking to climb further up the league table as they faced second-placed NTU 3s.
Repton began brightly, keeping strong possession and breaking through the students’ high press on several occasions. Despite this promising start, NTU struck first: their opening attack of the final quarter saw a quickly taken free hit fired into the circle and finished with a superb backspace shot, giving the hosts a 1–0 lead.
The rest of the first half was an evenly matched contest, with both teams showing control on the ball and disciplined defensive structures.
Repton came out confidently after halftime, with Russell A dictating play from central midfield and helping his side regain momentum.
After several missed opportunities, the breakthrough finally came in the 51st minute. Rocco EW reacted quickest to a rebound and calmly slotted home the equaliser to bring Repton level.
NTU responded with a brief five-minute spell of pressure, but it was clear Repton had the greater energy heading into the final phase of the match. A series of open-play chances and penalty corners came Repton’s way, though none were converted, and the match looked destined for a draw.
Then came the decisive moment. In the very last attack of the game, Repton drove into the circle, and the ball fell to Alex B, who fired home the winner. There wasn’t even time for an NTU restart.
A brilliant performance and a huge result for the M2s, moving them to within a single point of top spot.

A cold and wet Sunday morning in Belper as Edwards and Hatton stepped onto the touchline for their management debuts. Despite the cold weather and threats of rain, Repton took control of the game from the first whistle.
Applying the early pressure, Repton were rewarded with a 19th-minute short corner, signalling their attacking intent. Three minutes later, they broke the deadlock when Darcy P unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the D to give Repton the lead.
Repton doubled their advantage in the 24th minute, with Sophia K finding space at the back post and delicately lifting the ball over the Belper goalkeeper’s leg. Belper were fortunate moments later when an own goal was chalked off in the 28th minute, keeping the score at 2–0.
The second half began much like the first, with Repton pushing forward. Another short corner in the 36th minute kept Belper pinned in their own half, and it wasn’t long before the visitors extended their lead.
In the 38th minute, Jessica HM produced a sensational solo run, starting just inside the Belper half and weaving past multiple players before calmly slotting into the bottom-right corner.
Repton continued to dominate, and Darcy P added two more goals in the 44th and 51st minutes, completing her hat-trick. Another short corner followed in the 53rd minute, and Darcy struck again in the 54th minute to further increase the advantage.
With nine minutes remaining, Belper finally managed to break through Repton’s otherwise impenetrable defence, carving out their first real opportunity of the match. Their effort was struck well, but stand-in goalkeeper Millie H reacted brilliantly, producing an excellent save before clearing the danger.
Repton kept pressing right to the final whistle, earning a series of short corners (58’, 59’, 60’) and even finding the net three more times late on, though all were disallowed, keeping the final score unchanged.

Repton U16 Boys produced a thrilling and determined comeback to secure an impressive 8–6 victory over North Staffordshire, in a match packed with pace, spirit and superb hockey from start to finish.
Repton began strongly, dominating early possession and earning a short corner within the opening minutes. Despite their bright start, North Staffordshire struck first from a short corner at 11 minutes, then added further goals at 16, 19, 21 and 25 minutes. Alex M gave Repton a boost with a their first goal at 30 minutes, and Ethan added another late in the half at 34 minutes, sending Repton into the break trailing 5–2 at halftime.
With no coach present on this occasion, the boys showed impressive maturity and teamwork. The crucial halftime talk was supported by Ethan and Sam, whose energy and positivity transformed the atmosphere and helped spark Repton’s comeback.
The second half saw a stunning response. Within the first minute, Ethan fired in to restart the scoring. Dexter added a clinical field goal six minutes later, before Ethan secured his hat-trick at 10 minutes. North Staffordshire scored again at 11 minutes, but Repton held their nerve. A run of short corners at 18, 19 and 22 minutes maintained heavy pressure. Ethan continued his outstanding form with goals at 20 and 26 minutes linking up with Dexter bringing his tally to five. Alex M finished superbly with a final goal in the closing minutes.
At the back, Duncan made crucial saves, keeping Repton steady during key moments, while Tom dropped into defence to provide vital support on the back line.
And on his birthday weekend, Aaron earned a well-deserved honourable mention for his fantastic defending, putting in a phenomenal performance.
The boys created several more chances that narrowly missed, and the overall play from every member of the team was superb, and all the boys played excellent hockey throughout against stronger opposition. The tremendous support from parents on the sideline also lifted the team and helped fuel the comeback.
With excellent match play and inspirational leadership on and off the pitch, Ethan was deservedly named Player of the Match.

U12 Boys’ Tournament
The long awaited first Tier 2 match for the U14s didn’t disappoint vs West Bridgford.
From the start the boys passed the ball round with confidence and patience. After 6 minutes Charlie L slotted his first goal home.
Good attacking down Repton’s right through Monty E, Daniel M and Rex M created the second with Charlie L again finishing. Repton created several other chances in open play and penalty corners which were thwarted by good saves from the opposition keeper.
There was good defensive play too when West Bridgford broke away with Charlie H making a good save in goal.
The second half allowed Repton to play higher up the pitch. Strong defending and pressing forward to intercept the ball well, Henry M and Will B found a good central defensive pairing and with Will D-S and Harry B in the midfield winning the ball allowed Charlie L to complete his hattrick.
Stepping up to support the u14s were Zach D-S and Tom W-S who worked hard across the whole pitch in their first full pitch fixtures.
After some well worked penalty corners Monty E smashed the fourth home with a great strike.
In the last few minutes Repton continued pressure told when a good strike was well saved but Alex B-S was well positioned on the back post to slot home the rebound and seal a 5-0 victory.
Bearing in mind this is the first time the team played together the teamwork and passing to create opportunities was excellent and a great start to the season

The girls had an excellent afternoon at Beeston and thanks to them for hosting.

U12 Girls’ Tournament
This weekend saw Reptons’ Tier 1 U14 Boys take on Stourport in the penultimate round of league games, the return fixture following the Cup win a fortnight ago.
After conceding 3 late goals in the previous fixture, Repton approached the game with an air of cautiousness however once the starting whistle had blown the team fell into their usual pattern of high press and putting the oppositions’ defence under pressure immediately. 5 minutes into the game, a neat combination led to Leo F opening the scoring and 7 minutes later this was followed up by a nicely worked penalty corner leading to Jay W scoring following too much time and space being afforded to Sam D on the edge of the D, who picked out Jay on the far post.
Repton were dominant throughout the first half and the centre back pairing of Zach S and Toby H controlled the pace of the game superbly from the back, seeing plenty of the ball and snuffing out any attacks from the Stourport front line.
The second half started the same as the first with 2 goals added within 15 minutes of the restart. Nye scoring his first of two for the day and Leo F adding a second before completing his hattrick, the third coming off Jay W’s goal-bound attempt touched in on the line.
Stourport, as with the previous match, were forced into shuffling their formation, sacrificing their back line to add a third forward into the attack and overload the midfield. Despite clawing back a goal in the 50th minute, the Repton team always seemed in control and found another gear to close out 7 v 1 with Henry M and Nye rounding off the scoreline.
Arguably the best all round performance for this team so far this season and although the goal scorers generally get the plaudits there was some great work all round with the half-backs in particular, through Archie N, Jack F and Oleg C, supporting the attack down the wings at every opportunity, and working tirelessly to defend alongside the centre back pairing.
With one round to go in the T1 Area League, Repton face second placed Belper next week and will hope to continue their excellent form and secure the top spot and qualifications into the Supra League.
