The official league hockey season may be over but it has been a busy month for many of our members with the U12s and U14s Repton Cup, international matches for our NAGs players, the announcement of Futures Cup selections as well as summer league hockey for our Men’s 1st XI.
Our U12s and U14s boys and girls had an amazing experience at this year’s Repton Cup and it was fantastic for our youngsters to play some competitive indoor and outdoor games against talented teams from across the UK after such a challenging season. This festival of elite hockey has gone from strength to strength since it’s launch in the summer of 2018 and proves to be a showcase of junior hockey talent so we are very grateful to our Head Coach Martin Jones, as well as the support of Repton School, to ensure the 2021 Repton Cup was able to take place so successfully.
Bella Hinde-Smith (U12s) awarded Player of the Tournament
Our U12s girls were coached by Ladies’ 1st XI Captain Hannah Davey and the boys by Men’s 1st XI player Matti Thomas with guest coaches Mimi Tarrant and GB International Ollie Willars joining them to help with the U14 teams. Thank you to the coaches, our U14 boys evening manager Rich Mayfield, all the umpires, and to the army of Repton Cup helpers (including plenty of familiar faces from Repton HC past and present!), for their hard work to ensure everyone had such a great time. There are some good highlights of the tournament on the Repton Cup Instagram feed with excellent video footage of the matches and our members will have received details of how to view and purchase event photographs that were taken by Epic Action Imagery.
Earlier in the summer we were delighted to announce that 11 of our juniors had been selected for the final NAGs squads and they have all had the opportunity to represent their country this summer with matches vs Wales, Scotland and Ireland. The strength of our junior programme was further reflected by the Futures Cup selection announcement this week with a further 9 players selected to represent Mercia Lynx and Pennine Pumas in the tournament to take place in St Albans from 25th-28th August. Congratulations to all players who committed to the England Hockey Player pathway this season. It has been a difficult season and the enthusiasm and dedication shown by so many players will prove them in good stead as they strive towards their hockey goals and aspirations.
Congratulations to:
