This weekend the outdoor season restarted for our W1 and M1 with 2 huge away games. On the junior side we had 9 teams in action with highlights including our U18 boys progressing to the National Semi Finals. Please find below some of the match reports.
Repton W1 restarted their outdoor season with a tough away trip to league leaders Buckingham, knowing it would be a tightly contested encounter. Having handed Buckingham their only defeat of the first half of the season with a narrow win, the question was whether Repton could repeat the feat on their opponent’s home turf.
The game began cautiously, with both sides taking time to settle. Buckingham created early pressure and won a series of penalty corners, testing the Repton defence. The visitors stood firm, but a defensive block on the line led to a penalty flick for the hosts. Goalkeeper Jas rose to the occasion, producing a save to keep the scores level and ensure the sides went into the end of the first half goalless.
Repton found their rhythm in the second quarter and began to pose a consistent attacking threat. Their pressure paid off in the 22nd minute when a penalty corner was awarded. Maya C stepped up and fired home to break the deadlock, giving Repton a lead. Chances came at both ends before the break, with Buckingham striking the post, but Repton maintained their advantage to lead 1–0 at half time.
The second half proved scrappier, with Buckingham increasing their intensity and pressing high. Their efforts were rewarded in the 40th minute when a swift counterattack was finished to bring the scores level at 1–1. Repton continued to push forward, earning another penalty corner that drifted wide, before striking the post themselves minutes later.
As the game entered the final quarter, both teams searched for a winner. Jas delivered a Player of the Match performance in goal, making several crucial saves, while a Repton defender also cleared off the line. Despite late pressure from both sides, neither team could find the decisive goal.
The final whistle confirmed a 1–1 draw, with both teams taking a point from a hard-fought contest. While there is room for improvement, Repton W1 can take plenty of positives from their first game back as they look ahead to a local derby against Beeston at home this weekend.

A top of the table clash vs Bowdon was always going to be a big one with Bowdon bringing the noise (and flares!) It was a toe to toe match to mark return to outdoor league. Both teams created opportunities, Repton tentatively started but found there mojo in Q3 going ahead after a dominant passage of play, equalising within minutes of the start. The league is now very much all to play for with Repton sitting at the top by 1 point.

League fixture #13, away to top of the league NTU 2's.
NTU are a well organised team who finished clinically.
Despite a fairly competitive match, NTU 2's were comfortable winners with a final score of 6-2.
Repton goals came via Freddie N and Rocco EW.
M2 lost 2-6 vs Notts Trent University
The U12 boys competed in a well-run tournament hosted at Leek, playing four competitive matches and finishing with two wins and two losses. Results were a 1–3 loss to North Staffs, a strong 4–0 win against Leek, a narrow and unlucky defeat to Sutton 2-3, and a hard-fought 2–1 win over Telford.
There was clear improvement throughout the day, particularly in team play, decision-making in the D, and collective defensive work. The boys showed great effort and worked hard for each other today.
Thanks to the opposition for loaning a goalkeeper, and to the parents for their support. A positive day with plenty to build on.
U12 Boys Tournament
The Repton U16 boys put in a strong and disciplined performance away at Nottingham on 1 February, coming away with a well-earned 3–0 victory against a strong Beeston side.
Coached by Grace, Repton started the match with good intensity and composure despite Beeston fielding a competitive team. The early pressure paid off 12 minutes into the first half when Dexter won a short corner, which was calmly converted by Ethan F to give Repton a deserved lead.
The game remained competitive throughout the first half, although momentum was occasionally disrupted by some questionable umpiring decisions. At 28 minutes, Tom received a green card, forcing Repton to manage a brief period under pressure, which they handled well defensively to reach half-time still 1–0 ahead.
The second half saw Repton continue to control the game. Johnny extended the lead to 2-0. However, discipline was tested when Ollie H received a green card 8 minutes into the half, followed by another for Henry H at 11 minutes. Despite this, Repton’s defensive unit remained resilient and organised.
At 24 minutes into the second half, Dexter P capped off an impressive team performance by scoring Repton’s third goal, effectively sealing the match.
Grace jointly awarded Players of the Match to Aaron and Aidan for their outstanding hard work and commitment in defence, both playing a key role in maintaining the clean sheet.
Overall, it was a strong team display, with the boys fighting well and playing hard throughout to secure a convincing 3–0 win away from home.

On a dreary, misty day in Gloucester, Repton produced a commanding second-half performance to sweep past Lansdown and book their place in the cup semi-finals.
The opening half was evenly contested, with both sides probing cautiously in tricky conditions. The first major moment arrived in the 22nd minute when the Lansdown goalkeeper produced a stunning triple save to deny Repton and keep the scores level. However, the deadlock was broken a minute later. A clearance from a short-corner routine fell to Susie R, who calmly fed the ball back into the D for Elsie H to slot home and give Repton the lead.
Lansdown responded well and drew level in the 27th minute after a goalmouth scramble resulted in a penalty flick, which was confidently converted to make it 1–1 at the break.
The second half, however, told a very different story. Repton took complete control, delivering some of their best hockey of the season and scoring six unanswered goals. Darcy P restored Repton’s lead in the 44th minute, before Margot T made it 3–1 just a minute later with a slickly worked short-corner routine.
Repton continued to apply relentless pressure. Jess HM added a fourth in the 51st minute, and the goals kept flowing as Flo B (55) and Erin L (56) struck within a minute of each other to put the result beyond doubt. Darcy P then capped an outstanding team display by netting her second of the match in the 66th minute, converting Repton’s final short corner of the game.
It was a fantastic all-round performance from the girls, who now look forward to a cup semi-final in a few weeks’ time, full of confidence and momentum.

Repton U18 Boys delivered a commanding performance, defeating City of York 6–0 in the Quarter-Final of the Cup to book their place in the semi-finals.
Repton set the tone early, dominating possession and territory throughout a highly controlled first half. The breakthrough came in the 8th minute when City of York conceded a penalty corner, expertly converted by George M with a powerful drag flick.
Further pressure from Repton forced another short corner in the 14th minute, and once again Morris made no mistake, repeating the feat with a second drag flick to double the lead. York struggled to contain Repton’s attacking intent, and in the 30th minute a third penalty corner was conceded. Morris completed a perfect hat-trick of short-corner goals, firing home his third drag flick to make it 3–0.
Just two minutes later, Repton capitalised on sustained pressure as a loose ball fell invitingly in the circle, allowing Rocco EW to react quickest and knock the ball over the line for Repton’s fourth.
As the first half drew to a close, City of York conceded a fourth short corner. This time it was Rocco EW who stepped up to score, sending Repton into the break with a commanding 5–0 lead.
The second half saw City of York regroup and provide a more resilient defensive display. However, Repton continued to control the game, and ten minutes after the restart a driven ball into the D was deftly deflected into the net by Rocco EW completing his hat-trick and extending the lead to 6–0.
The remainder of the match was a hard-fought contest, with York showing determination and resilience, but Repton remained disciplined and composed to see out a deserved clean sheet.
A dominant first-half performance proved decisive, with an excellent all-round team display securing Repton U18 Boys a well-earned place in the semi-finals.

A Repton comeback, in a tricky away fixture, securing a semi-final place.
A weekend of Cup games for the Junior teams at Repton Hockey Club saw the U14 Boys T1 squad taking on Cambridge away in a testing quarter final draw.
Following on from a couple of reasonably comfortable wins in the Supra League on the previous two weekends, the Repton team were in a buoyant mood and after a 2 hour long journey, a focused pre-game warm up saw the boys raring to go, however a few minutes into the game and the team in blue were left shell-shocked after Cambridge opened the scoring from a penalty corner whereby they were afforded too much space at the top of the D to hit the ball low and hard into the bottom of the Repton goal.
Cambridge had started the game strong, attacking at will and Repton struggled to recover in the first quarter. Repton found themselves against an opposition playing to their own strengths and formation, not worried in the opening exchanges about Repton’s previously commanding results in the League. Cambridge played with a high 3-player forward line and 4 in midfield, leaving little space for Repton to gain any foothold on the game. Repton’s passing was fairly loose at times, attacks didn’t quite come together and turnovers were happening all too often with Cambridge counter attacking fluidly at every opportunity.
Fortunately for Repton though, Cambridge were unable to capitalise with Hector C. standing strong when facing a number of penalty corners in the first, and early part of the second, quarter.
1-0 down at the end of the first quarter, the team talk focused on adapting to Cambridges’ formation without disrupting our own game. This slight tweak in tactics seemed to work as Repton slowly grew into the game. The forward line worked tirelessly in the press and the Repton midfield started to gain a strangle-hold of the game.
As the second quarter progressed Repton grew in confidence and only the heroics of the Cambridge keeper prevented them from opening the scoring before Sam D, continuing his recent goal-scoring form, finally registered a goal for Repton 27 minutes in. A lovely fluid move starting with Charlie B. at left back moving the ball sharply into Nye E-S, who played a swift one-two with Archie N. before releasing Jay W.. Jay W. effortlessly roamed into the opposition D and laid off to Sam D. who smartly netted at the near post.
The Repton team were buoyed by the leveller, unfortunately though within a minute, following on from some questionable umpiring and Repton’s slowness to respond to the quickly taken free hit from Cambridge, the home team responded to regain the lead.
Rather than disrupt the flow of Repton’s game, this only seemed to spur them on and 2 minutes later another fine move started by Jay W. defending deep in our 25 found Matthew B., who worked the ball to Leo F., driving over the half way line to find Ollie N., on the edge of the D. The Cambridge GK seemed to stifle the attack but wasn’t counting on Sam D’s eye for goal, smashing the ball from the tightest of angles on the left baseline into the roof of the net.
From this point onwards the boys never looked back, there was a maturity in their play and they paced the game beautifully in the remainder of the 2nd and 3rd quarter.
Before the half time whistle blew Nye E-S. scored after some neat baseline dribbling from Ollie N. to give Repton the lead.
Although the lead was slender until the last 10 minutes of the game, a nervous watch for the travelling supporters pitch-side, Cambridge couldn’t quite find the fluidity of play they had in the opening quarter.
The defensive line were rarely tested, Zach S. and Toby H. exchanging passes at the back, although at times offering a glimpse of the ball to the opposition, just to keep the Repton team on their toes.
Through the 3rd and 4th quarter Leo F., Nye E-S., Jay W., and Harry J., controlled the game with some neat passing and injections into the opposition D. A typical example being the link up between Nye E-S and Jay W., which led to Repton’s 4th goal (Nye’s second) 10 minutes from time.
The forward line worked tirelessly with Matthew B., Mac W., and Henry M., putting in massive shifts to the keep the Cambridge back line busy and never affording them too much space.
In defence, Archie N., continued to work the right side with a number of excellent runs and linking up the attack where possible.
Charlie B., coming back into the team to cover Oleg’s absence was excellent at Left Back. Sparking a number of attacks, the 5th Repton goal coming from Charlie B., shifting the ball down the left to Mac W., and then Sam D., who this time was provider to Ollie N.’s goal 3 minutes from time.
The game was won and although Cambridge pulled one back in the dying seconds, the Repton team had put in an excellent performance to win through to the semi-finals 3 v 5.
Job very well done, and a mature performance having conceded early on and riding the Cambridge storm in the first quarter.
They Repton boys should all be proud of themselves reaching the semi-finals of the T1 U14B Cup, and continuing their unbeaten run this season in all competitions.
A break now for the U14B as we await the draw for the semi finals, Repton’s next game on the 1st March, after which the return fixture to face Cambridge again on home turf March 15th.
