Game Week 1 Reports

With training back in full swing and Pre Season over for The Practice @ Willington M1 and W1, they kicked off their league games this weekend.

On Saturday, the W1s travelled to Pendle Forest in challenging conditions, with heavy rain and standing water making for a difficult playing surface.
Both sides started strongly, creating chances in an evenly contested first half. Despite the pressure at both ends, neither team was able to convert, including some excellent saves from goalkeeper Kate W, who kept the scoreline goalless at the interval.
Pendle Forest broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, finding the net in the 48th minute. The goal prompted a strong response from the W1s, who increased their attacking intensity and consistently threatened the Pendle defence. Their persistence was rewarded in the 67th minute when Jess L struck superbly to level the score through a penalty corner rebound.
The match was competitive throughout, with several standout individual performances. Among them, Annabel W was exceptional in defence, making key tackles and determination to win the ball. Her efforts were recognised by her teammates, who voted her Player of the Match.
Final Score: Pendle Forest 1 – 1 Repton

On Sunday, the M1s faced an even longer trip north as they travelled to Durham University for their Division 1 North debut, following last season’s promotion. Conditions were far more favourable than the day before, with clear blue skies setting the stage for an exciting encounter.
Determined to make their mark in the new league, the M1s started brightly and wasted no time asserting themselves. Debutant Ed W opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a well-taken finish from open play, giving the visitors an early lead. Durham, however, responded quickly and levelled the score just four minutes later, underlining the competitiveness of the contest.
The match remained tightly contested, with both sides battling hard across the pitch. The breakthrough finally came in the 55th minute, when new signing Si C converted from a penalty corner to restore the M1s’ advantage. From there, the team showed composure to see out the result and claim a winning start in Division 1 North.
George M produced a commanding display in defence, earning himself the Player of the Match award after an assured performance at the back.
Final Score: Durham University 1 – 2 Repton

Congratulations to all involved in these games and a special mention to players who made their Repton HC debut and their National League Debut.

Looking ahead to next weekend the M1 and W1 both will play at home. The M2 also kick off their 25/26 season VS Sikh Union on Saturday. Come down and support all 3 teams in action.

The U12 boys travel to North Staffs for their first tournament of the year, whilst the U12/U14 girls go head to head in a pre season friendly.
