Double header clash vs Olton and more...

Women's 1XI lost 2-3 vs Olton
Player of the match: Kat M

After a break in the fixture calendar, Repton W1 were eager to return to action and deliver the performance they know they are capable of. With the sun shining over Derbyshire, Repton welcomed Olton in what promised to be an open contest, with both sides making changes to their line-ups since the reverse fixture.
From the first whistle, Repton started brightly, showing far greater momentum than in previous weeks. Early pressure resulted in multiple circle entries, but despite their strong start it was Olton who struck first. Against the run of play, the visitors won a penalty corner in the 10th minute and converted to take the lead.
Repton responded well, continuing to press and attack with intent. A flowing move down the left, featuring excellent link-up play, saw Kat M calmly slot home a well-worked equaliser just before the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter began in similar fashion, with Repton on the front foot. Five minutes in, Kat M struck again, finishing confidently to secure her second goal of the afternoon and give Repton a deserved lead. However, the advantage was short-lived as Olton responded just two minutes later to level the scores at 2–2. The remainder of the half was evenly contested, with Repton earning several penalty corners but unable to convert, and the teams went into the break all square.
Following half-time, both sides created chances, but the goalkeepers stood firm, pulling off key saves to keep the scores level. Just before the end of the third quarter, Repton were shown a green card, leaving them down to ten players heading into the final period.
Olton capitalised early in the fourth quarter. A swift move down the right led to a dangerous ball flashed across goal, which was met by a free attacker to restore the visitors’ lead with 16 minutes remaining.
Repton refused to back down, pushing higher up the pitch and forcing multiple turnovers in Olton’s defensive 25. Despite sustained pressure, they were unable to find the final touch. A second green card temporarily reduced Repton to ten once again, meaning opportunities had to be chosen carefully.
Back to full strength, Repton continued to apply pressure. With three minutes remaining, Olton were shown a green card of their own, giving Repton a late numerical advantage. The W1 made it count, earning a penalty corner in the dying seconds, their final opportunity to snatch a point. Unfortunately, the resulting shot went wide, and the final whistle confirmed a 3–2 victory for the visitors.
The scoreline did not fully reflect the balance of play, and Repton W1 will be disappointed not to come away with at least a point. Encouragingly, the improvements worked on in training were evident throughout the match. Focus now turns to refining the finer details ahead of a big away trip north to Ben Rhydding.

Men's 1XI won 7-0 vs Olton
It was a double header for the adult sides against Olton this week, as the visitors returned for round two, this time facing our Men’s 1s. Sitting top of the league, Repton welcomed an Olton side currently at the foot of the table. With a few injuries in the squad, the fixture provided an excellent opportunity to give valuable experience to some of the club’s younger players as they continue their development within senior hockey.
Repton came out firing, determined to cement their position at the top. Just eight minutes in, first-half top scorer Si C opened the scoring with a trademark drag flick from a penalty corner. After half-time, Olton grew into the contest and showed greater defensive resilience, holding their shape and limiting clear-cut chances. Despite this, Ethan S found space and added his name to the scoresheet to extend the advantage. As the half wore on, Olton defended deep and Repton began to tire, resulting in over 25 minutes without either side finding the net.
However, it was fitting that the final action of the game belonged to the league leaders. In the dying seconds, Repton won another penalty corner, and Si C stepped up once more to fire home his fifth goal of the match, and Repton’s seventh, to round off an emphatic 7–0 victory.
After a break in league action, it was impressive to see the M1 return in such dominant fashion. The result keeps them top of the table with five games remaining. Attention now turns to next weekend’s trip to Deeside, which promises to be a feisty encounter.
