Match reports:

Women’s 1XI lost 2-1 vs Ben Rhydding:
Repton W1 made the trip to Ben Rhydding on Saturday morning, greeted by a mixture of sun and hail in conditions that set the tone for a fiercely contested encounter. As one spectator remarked, “this game would have been shown second on Match of the Day” a testament to the drama that unfolded.
From the outset, Repton started brightly, applying early pressure and breaking into the Ben Rhydding circle on multiple occasions. Several short corners were won during a dominant opening spell, but despite controlling much of the play, the visitors were unable to convert their chances.
With just two minutes remaining in the first half, and arguably against the run of play, Ben Rhydding found the net from open play to take a 1–0 lead. Buoyed by the breakthrough, the hosts struck again just before the end of the first quarter, converting a short corner to extend their advantage to 2–0.
Undeterred, Repton responded with determination and composure. Strong link-up play and sustained attacking pressure eventually paid off when a crashing ball into the circle from Poppy B took a deflection off a defender. Kat M reacted quickly, getting a touch at head height to steer the ball into the back of the net and pull a deserved goal back for Repton. The remainder of the half saw both sides battle hard, but the score remained 2–1 going into the break.
Ben Rhydding emerged for the second half with a more aggressive press, increasing the intensity across the pitch. Both teams created opportunities from penalty corners and open play, but resolute defending and missed chances kept the scoreline unchanged.
As the pressure mounted, discipline became a factor. In the 41st minute, Repton were reduced to ten players following a five-minute yellow card. Shortly after, Ben Rhydding received a green card, levelling the numbers at ten apiece. The game continued to ebb and flow with further cards disrupting momentum for both sides. Repton showed resilience throughout, maintaining their structure despite repeated numerical disadvantages.
A promising two-on-one opportunity flashed across the face of goal as Repton pushed for an equaliser. In the 59th minute, both teams were shown green cards, making it ten versus ten, before a harsh yellow card for Repton left them nine players against ten. Even with reduced numbers, Repton remained composed, using the width effectively and continuing to press high.
Back to a full squad for the closing stages, Repton piled on the pressure. A late short corner opportunity was narrowly missed, and a series of tight decisions did not fall their way. Despite their relentless efforts, the match ended 2–1 in favour of Ben Rhydding.
While the result was not what Repton had hoped for, the performance reflected great character, determination, and teamwork throughout. Attention now turns to another away fixture, this time to Gloucester, with four games remaining in the season.

U18 Boys won 5-4 vs Trojans:
Repton Under-18 Boys booked their place in the Final with a thrilling 5–4 victory away to Trojans in Southampton in a fiercely contested semi-final.
Repton made a positive start and took the lead after 10 minutes, setting the tone for what would become an end-to-end encounter. Trojans responded eight minutes later to level the scores at 1–1, and the remainder of the half stayed finely balanced. Just before the break, the hosts edged ahead to make it 2–1 at half-time.
The second half burst into life within minutes of the restart. Repton equalised to make it 2–2, and then, just two minutes later, moved in front at 3–2, with Ethan S completing his hat-trick in quick time. Trojans continued to press and found another equaliser with 12 minutes remaining, setting up a tense finale at 3–3.
Repton responded strongly, regaining the lead with eight minutes to play and then extending it to 5–3 two minutes later, seemingly putting the result beyond doubt. However, Trojans refused to relent and pulled a goal back in the final minute to make it 5–4, ensuring a nervy finish before the final whistle confirmed Repton’s place in the Final.

U16 Boys won 2-0 vs Ben Rhydding:
Repton U16 boys delivered a composed and disciplined performance at home against a determined Ben Rhydding side, securing a deserved 2–0 victory under the guidance of Mr Exley.
From the first whistle, it was clear this would be a competitive encounter. Ben Rhydding brought intensity and physicality, but Repton controlled the tempo throughout much of the opening half, moving the ball confidently and applying sustained pressure in the attacking third.
The breakthrough came 17 minutes into the game. Awarded a short corner, Repton executed the routine with precision. Alex OC stepped up and converted clinically, firing home to give Repton a well-earned 1–0 lead.
Shortly afterwards, Tom F received a green card, temporarily reducing Repton to ten men. Despite this setback, the team remained organised and composed, continuing to dominate possession and territory.
As the half drew to a close, Repton struck again. In the final minutes before the break, Ben L capitalised on attacking pressure, finishing a well-worked move with a sharp field goal to extend the lead to 2–0. It was a crucial goal at a key moment, giving Repton real control heading into halftime.
The second half saw a spirited response from Ben Rhydding. They pushed forward with greater urgency, attempting to claw their way back into the match. However, Repton’s defensive unit stood firm. Strong tackling, intelligent positioning and disciplined structure ensured the visitors were unable to convert their chances.
Midway through the second half, Tom F received his second green card of the match, again testing Repton’s resilience. Yet even while temporarily a man down, the team showed maturity and composure beyond their years, managing the game intelligently and denying Ben Rhydding any clear route back.
After an exciting and hard-fought contest, the final whistle confirmed a 2–0 victory for Repton.
Ben L was deservedly named Player of the Match, not only for his goal but for his work rate, movement and impact throughout the game.

U14 Girls won 2-0 vs Marlow:
A place in the T1 National Cup Final was at stake as Marlow welcomed Repton to Buckinghamshire for a 14:30 push back in front of a strong home crowd.
Repton won the toss and pushed back, but it was a slow and cagey opening. The first five minutes were largely contested in the middle of the pitch, neither sides being able to break through.
The first real opportunity came from an attack down Repton’s left flank, earning them a short corner. Marlow’s defense stood firm, calmly dealing with the set piece to keep the scores level.
Ten minutes into the game, Marlow won their own short corner. The strike was well executed, but the Repton goalkeeper produced a solid save to deny the hosts the opener.
On the 15th minute, Repton were reduced to nine outfield players after a green card was shown, giving Marlow a two-minute numerical advantage. Marlow capitalised on the pressure to win two short corners but were unable to convert during the sin-bin period.
As Repton returned to full strength, Marlow continued to press and earned another short corner on 21 minutes, again unable to find the breakthrough.
Repton’s first real attacking threat from open play came on the 25th minute. They followed this with a superb solo run from the halfway line on 28 minutes, forcing the Marlow goalkeeper into an important save to keep the scores level.
In the 38th minute, Repton were awarded another short corner but failed to convert.

Marlow gradually settled and began to grow back into the contest. With twenty minutes remaining and the need for an equaliser increasing, they applied steady pressure and earned two short corners in the 52nd and 55th minutes. However, Repton’s defence remained resolute.

Marlow fought until the final whistle, winning two late short corners, but neither posed a serious threat to the Repton goal.
Repton progress to the T1 National Cup Final in April, where they will face either Beeston Hockey Club or Surbiton Hockey Club.

U14 Boys won 4-2 vs Havant:
Semi-Final day in the T1 Cup for the Repton U14 Boys and it was home advantage against Havant, who had travelled nearly 3 hours to face off against the boys in blue. That said the opposition showed no signs of journey-fatigue with a tightly contested first half.
Neither team dominated the game though Repton offered more of a threat in attack with the majority of the half played ahead of Repton’s 25 yard line.
Repton’s main threat came from the wide players, initially through their left side with Mac W. a constant threat with his pace, sprinting down the wing supported by some excellent half back play by Oleg C. and Charlie B.
Mac W. forced a number of plays into the opposition D, however Havant defended stubbornly.
On Repton’s right flank, Archie N. continues to enhance his attacking play, linking up well with Ollie N. on a number of occasions. A neat link up mid-way through the first half allowed Ollie N. to drive into the opposition baseline, place the ball across the face of the goal, unfortunately though the Repton attack were unable to capitalise. A few moments later, Repton won their first penalty corner of the afternoon, the Havant keeper looking like a mountain in goal, saved neatly and continued to stand tall against further opportunities created by Repton throughout the first half. That was until the 28th minute. A quick one-two between Zach S. and Oleg C. allowed Oleg C. to strive forward on a mazy run down Repton’s right-wing, adding in his now customary spin, and combining with Matthew B., who neatly manoeuvred himself into the D and found Leo F. for a simple drive low past the opposition keeper to open the scoring for Repton.
The final few minutes before half time saw Havant create a run on goal from their high forward, the danger snuffed out by Zach S. although did lead to a Havant penalty corner. Although the resulting shot found the back of the goal, a sigh of relief from Repton as the goal was ruled out due to the strike netting above the backboard.
Following the half-time break, the team in blue switched up a gear and a 15 minute spell followed whereby they exerted their control on the game. Often guilty of not taking advantage of penalty corners won, Repton scored their first of 3 penalty corner goals within 5 minutes of the restart. Nye E-S. scoring high into the goal after Ollie N’s initial shot was saved. Repton should really then have put the game to bed with a number of excellent counter attacking moves opening up the Havant team, unfortunately Henry M. was unable to convert on one occasion, and at another stage the keeper using his stature well to save from Henry M. two shots on the bounce. Havant struggled to get into the game, Jay W. and Harry J. both battling hard to keep the press on the opposition whilst Leo F. offered an outlet to control the pace of the game. Eventually though another penalty corner led to Repton’s 3rd with Leo F. firing across the keeper into the bottom right corner after a neat little left slip from Nye E-S.
With 15 minutes to go, Repton should really have closed out the game in comfortable style, however with this being a knockout cup game, Havant switched up their formation, threw a forward up high, went to 3 at the back, releasing an extra player into their midfield, and pressed every ball. This unsettled the home team, turn-overs occurring a little too often, compounded by some loose passing and a tendency to want to play direct and chase the 4th goal. Unsurprisingly this allowed Havant to score with 10 minutes to go. Sensing a potential comeback, Havant continued to press and if not for a smart save from Hector C. to stop a run in from the oppositions’ right side, as well as a few last ditch tackles from Charlie B., Archie N., Zach S., and Toby H., the latter playing a phenomenal last 10-15 mins with a number of key interceptions, Havant would surely have scored a second. Fortunately for Repton, a neat counter-attack with 3 minutes to go, another penalty corner, and a routine from the training playbook led to Sam D. guiding home a deflection following on from a drive in from Nye E-S. A fairly quiet afternoon by Sam D. given his recent scoring form, however he was not to be denied giving Repton the breathing room they needed. Despite Havant scoring an excellent consolation second goal, Repton had put the game out of reach and secured a place in the National Championship finals.
Not a vintage performance, but the result that was needed, and overall deserved for a Junior team that continues to grind out results, as well as remaining unbeaten this season. The team in blue should be very proud of reaching the national finals having come through some difficult games, particular in the last two rounds.
In a fortnights’ time Repton welcome Cambridge in the next round of the Supra League, another tricky fixture, with the aim to cement their position in the league table.

U12 Girls:

A very young U12 Girls team were resilient in their performance in their tournament at North Staffs.
Mollie scored an excellent goal against Sutton Coldfield to open proceedings and then the girls defended well through a succession of penalty corners, with Tink making some exceptional saves. The girls played their best hockey against Stourport, with Liv and Elodie’s composure and skill at the back unlocking some excellent runs from Mollie, Scarlett and Annabel. Jess was very tenacious, tracking back to make excellent tackles. The final match against North Staffs saw some more skilful runs leading to opportunities.
Overall, all seven girls should be very proud of their performance against some strong teams.
