As we approach the Christmas outdoor league break I would like to take the opportunity to update our members and supporters on the season to date.
The Men and Women’s teams both sit atop of their respective leagues and are well placed to push for promotion in the second half of the year. The junior outdoor teams are competing in the England Hockey Tier 1 Championships and the newly formed Midlands leagues. These provide more match play opportunities for our juniors, which has always been a club goal based on our member feedback, and it is great to report that the U14 and U16 boys and girls all qualified for the EH Supra Leagues after Christmas based on their league results in the first half of the season. The U12s continue with Midlands league games post Christmas and, along with the U10s, will have a programme including training games as they work towards the Midlands In2Hockey competition in April 2022.
Appointment of full time Head of Performance
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Wadsley as Head of Performance. Mark’s bio, along with details for the rest of the coaching team, can be found on our website:
Meet Our Coaches
Mark brings a wealth of experience from School, University and National Leagues to the coaching team and will be working with Martin Jones on all aspects of the delivery of hockey to all parts of the club. Martin Jones, Head Coach, commented:
“I am delighted that Mark is joining us as we continue to grow our coaching team. Not many can boast such an excellent track record successfully coaching school, university and club programmes so he knows the hockey landscape very well and we are fortunate to have him choose to join Repton HC.
Knowing him as I do from our time together at Beeston, I am sure that he’ll drive us forward and help to enhance the offering for all members, but especially our most talented.
In a busy January, Mark will be able to have an immediate impact as we are the only club to have Men’s and Women’s teams in the National Indoor Premier League and all four junior indoor sides remaining in the National competitions”

Thank you to all those players who completed the online player surveys this week and these will be reviewed over the Christmas break by the senior coaching team.
U12 and U14 Indoor Festival
It was frustrating to have to cancel the U12 and U14 indoor festival at the last minute, but the safety of players, parents, coaches, supporters and Sports Centre staff is a priority. We will endeavour to rearrange this event over the Easter break.
England Hockey Talent Development Pathway.
England Hockey recently issued a helpful Update on new Talent Development Pathway. The redevelopment is designed to increase the quality of hockey and overall player development of a broad group of players, looking to generate future national league players and senior internationals. Repton HC is one of the first cohort of clubs in the country to be selected to go through the Talent Centre accreditation process and develop a Talent Academy application. Mark Wadsley’s appointment ties in well with both of these initiatives and we are pleased to be working closely with England Hockey on the future of hockey talent development.
