Our Minis Under 10s and Under 8s training sessions have proved increasingly popular with between 45 and 65 children attending weekly Sunday morning sessions from 9.30am-10.30am at the Repton School Astros in Repton village. Sessions will recommence for the 23/24 season 17th September. Children from as many as 12 different local schools enjoy these fun, game based sessions led by our Senior Coaching Team with help from our Young Leaders and D of E Volunteers.

FAQs

How old should my child be to attend?
These sessions are for all children who are aged under 10 on 1 September 2021. When your child arrives and signs in for the session for the first time someone will be there to show them to the correct group on the pitch based on their age with our Under 6s, Under 8s, Under 9s and Under 10s all training in different areas with different coaches.

Do I have to join the club and how much does it cost?
Our minis sessions are run on a "pay as you play basis" at £5 per session, payable in cash when you sign your child in. Your child does not need to be a full member of Repton HC and there is no annual membership fee payable. We do ask though that every parent registers themselves and then their child / children on the club database so we have all relevant contact and medical information and you can do this through the Repton Hockey Club website "Join" function. Once you are registered you can download the club "pitchero" app and it is really helpful if you mark on this when your child is planning to attend training so we can plan coaching numbers. On arriving for a session your child will be signed in on the club app so we know who is attending each session.

What should my child wear and what kit do they need?
Players just need to wear warm, comfortable sports clothing and a pair of trainers. They will need their own gum shield and shin pads. If you have a hockey stick then please bring it along but don't worry if not as we can always lend one for the session. Some of our minis like to wear club T- shirts, sweatshirts and socks and you can order these on the club website Kit Order Page - they make great Christmas presents!

Do the minis play matches?
Each session involves fun skill based exercises and game play adapted to each age group. Our "oldest" minis will begin to understand some more of the rules of hockey as they work towards the In2hockey U10 county and area competitions that we enter in February and March. We also play intra-club games and host other local clubs for friendlies later in the season as the weather improves and the players have learned more of the basics of the game.

When does the season start and finish?
Typically the junior hockey season runs from 1 September through to mid April. We continue our Sunday morning minis sessions through to the middle of June though as we have found our youngest members enjoy their sessions even more when it is warm and are able to put their skills in to game play practise with visiting local teams.

What happens once my child turns 10?
Players who will be aged 10 on 1 September 2022 will move into our Under 12s age group next season. Our Under 12s currently train on a Tuesday evening from 6.30pm for a hour and they become full members of Repton HC and pay an annual membership fee which covers all training for the season. We never want cost to stop anyone playing hockey though and have an "Access to Hockey" fund which families can discuss with the club at any time on their hockey journey.
